A tragic incident unfolded on Valentine’s Day when a 62-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stabbing his estranged wife to death at their shared home in San Juan Capistrano, Orange County. Stephen Demaro reportedly slashed Debora, 59, in the early hours of Feb. 14, leading to a disturbing and violent end to their relationship.
The police were called to the ranch-style home on Laurelwood Lane after a disturbance was reported shortly after 6:30 am. Sgt. Lizbeth Gwisdalla shared that when officers arrived at the scene, they found Stephen with cuts to his arms inside the house. Further investigation led them to the garage, where they tragically discovered Debora’s lifeless body, indicating that she had been fatally stabbed. Stephen was then taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Public records reveal that the Demaros had been residing in their modest $800,000 home on a serene Orange County street for the past 26 years. Despite living together, Sgt. Gwisdalla clarified that the couple was estranged at the time of the incident, hinting at underlying issues within their relationship.
The authorities have refrained from disclosing details about Stephen’s alleged motive for the heinous act. Currently, Stephen is being held at the Orange County Intake Release Center in Santa Ana on a $1 million bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday to face the consequences of his actions.
This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence and the importance of seeking help and support in times of turmoil.
