A man wielding a knife was taken into custody on Saturday for criminal trespassing after he allegedly frightened residents in a Sacramento neighborhood.
Eerie footage showed Brian Mattson on the porch of Rebecca Breen’s home on Thursday evening, holding a knife and making stabbing gestures.
“We heard a loud knock and checked the ring camera, noticing something very unusual,” Breen told KCRA. “It was terrifying. It was absolutely terrifying.”
Sacramento County Sheriff’s Lt. Amar Gandhi informed the outlet that deputies received similar reports from various residents.
“It’s pretty scary stuff. He’s going out there literally thrashing on doors with knives,” he said. “But fortunately, again, nobody hurt. People were very smart in the sense of locking the doors, stayed inside, and called us.”
The 56-year-old fled when authorities arrived, but was later found and arrested on Saturday morning, according to the outlet.
Mattson, who was on felony probation, was only charged with criminal trespassing and released a few hours after being booked, according to the outlet citing authorities.
He was arrested later that same day when police responded to another incident involving Mattson trespassing.
Breen told the outlet she doesn’t believe her family was targeted, but said it was “very scary” nonetheless.
“I do believe that we were a random target. I don’t think that we were specifically targeted, but I think it’s very scary because if it wasn’t us, it’s going to be someone else. I mean, clearly he was not in his right frame of mind at all,” she said.
