Chad Smith surprised the audience at Studio 8H by taking the “Saturday Night Live” stage, pretending to be the host, Will Ferrell.
“I’m excited to be back hosting ‘Saturday Night Live,’” announced the Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer, who has long been humorously compared to Ferrell. “I was part of the cast for seven years, and now I’m hosting for the sixth time!”
Shortly afterward, Ferrell dashed on stage, exclaiming, “What do you think you’re doing? You’re not the host. I am!” He added, “What is wrong with you? He knocked me over backstage. I fell hard, and Lorne had to resuscitate me. Seriously, why are you even here?”
Once Ferrell managed to remove Smith from the stage, he addressed a question from the audience, choosing “the cute one” — musical guest Paul McCartney.
“I have a question. What do you think you’re doing, Chad?” the Beatle asked Ferrell, who responded: “I understand the confusion. Chad and I do look very similar. But I’m Will. I’m hosting tonight.”
McCartney replied: “Nice try, Chad. Go back. Return to the drums where you belong.”
Ferrell then humorously listed some of the iconic songs McCartney has written over the years, naming 17 hits from The Beatles, Wings, and McCartney himself. “But people often forget there are some great songs you didn’t write,” Ferrell continued. “The alphabet song, ‘Timber’ featuring Pitbull, and all the Smash Mouth hits.”
McCartney’s only retort: “Get back to the drums, Chad.”
