AMC Networks Cancels “Orphan Black: Echoes” After One Season
AMC Networks has made the decision to cancel “Orphan Black: Echoes” after its first and only season. The series made its debut on the basic cable network in June in the United States, with the season finale, now serving as the series finale, airing on August 25. The show was also available on AMC, BBC America, and the streaming platform AMC+.
Starring Krysten Ritter, “Echoes” was a follow-up to the popular BBC America series “Orphan Black.” The ensemble cast included Keeley Hawes, Amanda Fix, Avan Jogia, Rya Kihlstedt, and James Hiroyuki Liao.
The official synopsis of the series described it as following a group of women who intertwine their lives and embark on a thrilling journey to uncover the mystery of their identity while revealing a story of love and betrayal. Ritter portrayed Lucy, a woman with an extraordinary origin story, trying to find her place in the world.
Created by Anna Fishko, who also served as the showrunner and executive producer, “Echoes” had John Fawcett, the co-creator of the original “Orphan Black” series, as an executive producer and director. Other executive producers included David Fortier, Ivan Schneeberg, Nick Nantell, Katie O’Connell Marsh, and Kerry Appleyard from Boat Rocker, which manages the global franchise of “Orphan Black.”
Despite its connections to the successful “Orphan Black” series, “Echoes” failed to garner the same level of critical acclaim, receiving only a 60% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. “Orphan Black,” which starred Tatiana Maslany and ran for five seasons, was highly praised, with Maslany winning an Emmy Award for her performance and receiving a Golden Globe nomination.
