Gerald McRaney joins Hulu’s Murdaugh Family Limited Series
Variety has exclusively learned that Gerald McRaney is the latest addition to the cast of the upcoming Murdaugh family limited series on Hulu. The series is based on the true story of Maggie and Alex Murdaugh, as well as the reporting of journalist Mandy Matney, creator of the “Murdaugh Murders” podcast.
The Murdaugh family, known for their powerful influence in the Lowcountry region of South Carolina, has been embroiled in allegations of various crimes for years. From fraud to murder, the family has been at the center of multiple docuseries and news specials.
In the series, McRaney will portray Randolph Murdaugh, described as the “lion of the Lowcountry.” As the patriarch of the Murdaugh clan, Randolph is a Southern Good Ol’ Boy with a long history of serving as Solicitor and managing the family’s firm. However, the latest crisis may test his ability to navigate trouble like never before.
McRaney, a two-time Emmy nominee and winner for his role in “This Is Us,” has a stellar television resume that includes recent credits in “Paradise,” “NCIS: Los Angeles,” and “House of Cards.” He is also known for his roles in iconic shows like “Deadwood,” “Simon & Simon,” and “Major Dad.”
The series is created and executive produced by Michael D. Fuller and Erin Lee Carr, with Fuller serving as showrunner. Nick Antosca and Alex Hedlund will also executive produce under their banner Eat the Cat, alongside Matney. The studio behind the project is UCP, with Antosca and Eat the Cat currently under an overall deal at UCP.
With McRaney’s addition to the cast, the Murdaugh family limited series on Hulu promises to be a gripping and intense portrayal of a family embroiled in scandal and intrigue.
