The much-awaited Pokemon LeafGreen and Pokemon FireRed are set to make their debut on the Nintendo Switch in just a week’s time. As part of the ongoing Pokemon 30th anniversary celebrations, the reimagined versions of the classic Pokemon Red and Blue games will be adding to the excitement.

Originally released in 2004, Pokemon LeafGreen and Pokemon FireRed are the modernized versions of the iconic Pokemon Red and Blue games that first captured the hearts of players back in 1996. Charizard serves as the mascot for FireRed, while Venusaur represents LeafGreen.

Mark your calendars for February 27, 2026, as that is the official release date for Pokemon LeafGreen and Pokemon FireRed on the Nintendo Switch. The games will be available for purchase following the conclusion of the Pokemon Presents event scheduled to kick off at 6 am PT / 9 am ET on Pokemon Day.

According to The Pokemon Company, players can expect to encounter the original 151 Pokemon in these Nintendo Switch versions of the 2004 remakes. The games will feature the classic soundtrack, turn-based gameplay, and familiar characters like Brock, Misty, Professor Oak, and Giovanni.

Additionally, these classic Game Boy Advance RPGs will include all the updates introduced during the Game Boy Advance era, such as abilities, natures, weather conditions, held items, and the option to choose your player character’s gender. Players can also enjoy local co-op functionality without the need for a Game Link Cable, a feature reminiscent of the original 2004 release.

For players wondering about compatibility with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, rest assured that Pokemon LeafGreen and Pokemon FireRed will be accessible on the new platform as well. These games will be available exclusively as digital downloads from the My Nintendo Store and Nintendo eShop, with a suggested retail price of $29.99 (CAD) during the launch week.
