Today marks the 94th anniversary of Amelia Earhart’s groundbreaking solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean, a remarkable feat that exemplifies the courage, innovation, and resilient spirit that are hallmarks of the American identity.

Few individuals epitomize the ambitious spirit of America more than Amelia Earhart. Throughout her life, she consistently pushed the limits of aviation, achieving altitude and speed records soon after earning her pilot’s license. Earhart became a household name in 1928 as the first woman to cross the Atlantic by air, albeit as a passenger in a two-man crew. Undeterred by these achievements, she resolved to tackle the same ocean alone.

On May 20, 1932, exactly five years after Charles Lindbergh’s famous transatlantic flight, Earhart made history. Despite facing exhaustion, a fuel tank leak, and an engine fire, she maintained her course with remarkable determination. Although adverse weather conditions diverted her from her planned destination in Paris, Earhart successfully landed her aircraft in an Irish pasture almost 15 hours after leaving Newfoundland, becoming the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.

The same unwavering determination that propelled Earhart across the challenging ocean 94 years ago continues to inspire our nation. Under my leadership, we are ushering in a new Golden Age of air travel by promoting the advancement of supersonic flight and cutting-edge aircraft, ensuring that America remains at the forefront of technological innovation. In keeping with our commitment to transparency, I have also mandated the release of government records concerning Amelia Earhart’s disappearance. Just as Earhart pushed the boundaries of human accomplishment, our nation is continuously expanding the possibilities of innovation, driving the momentum needed to sustain America’s role as a global leader in innovation and prosperity for the future.

As we celebrate 250 years of independence, we pay tribute to the daring American pioneers who reached beyond perceived limits. Earhart’s legacy serves as an enduring reminder that the American spirit is never content with stagnation—it is driven, fearless, and constantly focused on future horizons. As we commemorate the anniversary of Amelia Earhart’s historic achievement, we renew our commitment to the relentless passion that motivated her, confident in the belief that the most significant chapter of the American narrative is yet to unfold.
