A Vision for America’s Education System

A nation’s greatness is often mirrored in the quality of its education system—one that not only equips our children for leadership but also fosters innovation, laying the groundwork for a prosperous future. During this American Education Week, my Administration is dedicated to crafting an education framework that empowers both students and families, emphasizes choice, and steadfastly pursues the ideals of goodness, truth, and beauty.

The Cost of Misguided Educational Policies

Since its inception in 1979, the Department of Education has allocated over $3 trillion ostensibly towards “education.” Yet, the results are disheartening. Instead of nurturing a literate populace, a staggering seven out of ten eighth graders today struggle with reading proficiency. Moreover, math scores for 13-year-olds have plummeted to their lowest in decades, leaving our future workforce ill-prepared for careers in science and technology. Rather than enhancing our education system, bureaucratic red tape has dictated curricula, pushing students further behind. Schools, originally designed for learning, have become ensnared in a web of regulations and paperwork, while classrooms intended for exploration have turned into testing grounds for radical social theories, political dogmas, and divisive ideologies. This unfortunate trend will cease on January 20, 2025.

Decentralizing Education: A Return to Local Control

By dismantling the Department of Education, my Administration aims to restore educational authority to where it rightfully belongs—with states, local communities, and parents who are best positioned to address the unique needs of their students. We are committed to providing ample opportunities for parents to enhance their children’s education through individual choice. Furthermore, we are expunging the detrimental influences of gender ideology, Critical Race Theory, and the empty slogans of so-called diversity, equity, and inclusion from our schools. In their place, we will reinstate a focus on truth, merit, and patriotism.

Looking to the Future: Embracing AI in Education

As we rectify the mistakes of the past, we are also laying the groundwork for a brighter future. Under the guidance of First Lady Melania Trump, we are championing the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) education for America’s youth and educators. Through the Nationwide Presidential AI Challenge, our students and teachers will acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to harness and develop cutting-edge technology. Numerous leading American businesses, non-profits, and educational institutions have pledged billions of dollars towards AI education initiatives, showcasing a collective commitment to ensuring our nation excels in this critical field.

Restoring Common Sense in Classrooms

Every American student deserves access to a high-quality education. Through our initiatives, my Administration is bringing common sense back to classrooms, reestablishing genuine authority for parents, and cultivating a generation of thinkers, builders, and leaders poised to advance our nation. America’s Golden Age begins in the classroom, and by revitalizing what could be the best education system in the world, we are fortifying a brighter future for our culture, our children, and our cherished country.
