Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders took advantage of his team’s BYE week in Week 9 by attending the game between Jaxson Dart’s New York Giants and Mac Jones’ San Francisco 49ers at MetLife Stadium. Sanders shared a picture from his seat at the stadium on his Instagram story, showing his support for his fellow NFL players.
In the game, the San Francisco 49ers emerged victorious with a 34-24 win over the Giants. Mac Jones, the quarterback for the 49ers, put on a stellar performance, completing 19 of 24 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns. On the other side, Giants QB Jaxson Dart started strong but couldn’t maintain his momentum throughout the game. He finished with 24 completions on 33 attempts for 191 yards and two touchdowns, along with 56 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.
Some speculated that Sanders’ presence at the game and his Instagram story might have been a subtle dig at the Giants, who reportedly passed on him during the NFL draft earlier in the year. Despite being selected by the Browns as the No. 144 pick, Sanders has yet to see action in a regular-season game for the team.
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski provided an update on Sanders’ back injury, which he sustained late in the week before the Browns’ Week 8 matchup against the New England Patriots. Stefanski mentioned that Sanders is still dealing with the injury but is improving. The young quarterback tested his back pregame but was ultimately held out as a precaution. It remains unclear how Sanders initially injured his back.
Sanders began the season as the third-string quarterback for the Browns but moved up to the backup position after the team traded Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals. As it stands, Sanders is the backup to fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel as the Browns prepare to face the New York Jets in Week 10.
Overall, Sanders’ journey in the NFL has been marked by challenges and setbacks, but he remains determined to make an impact on the field. With his injury on the mend and his role on the team evolving, all eyes will be on Sanders as he continues to work towards his goal of becoming a key player for the Cleveland Browns.
