Jeffrey Epstein’s Death Ruled a Suicide by New York City Medical Examiner

On August 11, 2019, one day after Jeffrey Epstein was found dead in his jail cell, his autopsy was performed by Dr. Kristin Roman, the New York City medical examiner. Forensic pathologist Michael Baden, hired by Epstein’s brother Mark, observed the autopsy process.

Initially, Dr. Roman did not make a definitive determination of Epstein’s cause of death, instead marking the “pending studies” box on the autopsy report. However, just five days later, Dr. Roman’s boss, chief medical examiner Barbara Sampson, officially ruled Epstein’s death a suicide after conducting a thorough review of all investigative information.

Dr. Roman eventually agreed with her boss’ decision, stating in an interview with the Justice Department, “It was pretty clear cut. His manner of death is suicide… His cause of death is hanging, and his manner of death is suicide.”

The ruling of suicide in Epstein’s case has been met with controversy and skepticism from some who believe foul play may have been involved. However, the official determination by the New York City medical examiner’s office stands.
